Medieval entertainment with the Historia Aquitanorum and Sancte Solari troupes

Over the Ascension weekend, La Roque Saint-Christophe is transformed into a medieval stronghold! The costumed protagonists will be on hand, with an uncompromising concern for realism and historical accuracy in their demonstrations! On 9, 10 and 11 May 2024, La Roque Saint-Christophe will take you on a journey back in time, and you are invited (at no extra charge) to come and meet the weavers, knights, squires, builders, cooks, seamstresses, etc. With the Historia Aquitanorum and Sancte Solari historical re-enactment troupes, it’s going to be great!

A passion for the Middle Ages

Passionate, that’s for sure! Historical re-enactment troupes are very often associations, friends and enthusiasts who get together to exchange ideas, seek out information and pass it on at events, to bring to life the uses and customs of the Middle Ages.

La Roque Saint-Christophe gives you the opportunity to step back in time for a unique journey over the Ascension weekend. The tour route remains the same, with guided tours. All along the cliff face, and in particular on the Grande Terrasse, you’ll find characters (in costume and with props) illustrating peasant life, domestic life and the daily lives of the various trades and social classes in the Middle Ages. Not to be missed!

Exceptional! The foot of the cliff will be open to the public, and a medieval camp will be set up for troops and visitors. This is your chance to gain access to an exclusive site that is rarely accessible …

Demonstrations of medieval lifting gear

As well as tours and workshops, the guides at La Roque Saint-Christophe will be offering demonstrations of how lifting equipment worked in medieval times. The outrigger crane, the drum winch, the capstan… As functional as they are beautiful, these are ingenious lifting machines rebuilt to scale by passionate builders of the Middle Ages. This Ascension weekend, La Roque Saint-Christophe becomes a history book!
