It’s a veritable limestone wall, one kilometer long and 80 meters high! Eroded by the Vézère river and frost over the millennia, a hundred or so rock shelters have been carved out of its aerial terraces.
These natural caves have been occupied by man since prehistoric times, then developed into a fort and a troglodytic city from the Middle Ages to the early Renaissance.

Free guided tour at 10:30 am with a local enthusiast. We learned a lot, and the guide gave demonstrations of the old wooden machines (sometimes with the help of children) that helped the daily life of the 1,000 medieval inhabitants who lived here.
The explanations, signs and 3D reconstruction are very well done! It’s easy to imagine the layout in the old days. Animations of the trades before begin at 2pm, so it was missed, but rather intended for children.
Exhibition on torture machines at the end, near the store, not bad to do (included in ticket).
Great self-guided tour, everything is numbered, just follow the map and enjoy every explanation.
Great family time, for young and old alike, and a beautiful view from the top. I recommend without hesitation.
