Throughout the summer, enjoy our guided tours featuring demonstrations of impressive medieval lifting devices.
Tours are offered daily so you can explore the history of Europe’s largest troglodyte settlement in the best possible conditions. Guided tours are free, and if you haven’t made a reservation, you must arrive at least 10 minutes before the tour starts.

Activities for the whole family
Every week, discover a varied lineup:
- Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday: Flint-knapping and fire-starting demonstrations with Nicolas,from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Thursday and Friday: “Music of the Origins” workshop with Pascal, to discover the sounds of prehistory, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Sunday: “Reading Nature” workshop with Mélody, focusing on plants, plant prints, and biodiversity, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday: Theobald the Falcon’s Puzzle Game, perfect for kids, all day long
These activities are included in the site tour and offer an interactive experience that’s perfect for families. There are no additional charges for the activities; they are included in the ticket price.

The Knightly Show
Monday through Friday, catch the show “Guillaume and Tristan, Knights… Against Their Will!”, at 12:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 5:45 p.m.
Humor, battles, and adventures set the tone for this family-friendly performance staged at the foot of the cliff. A must-see for young and old alike! No reservation required, no additional charge—it’s included in the price of your admission ticket.
Unforgettable evenings at the foot of the cliff
When the sun goes down, the magic continues.
Depending on the day of the week, enjoy:
- Monday evenings: Gourmet Market ( July 13–August 24) from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- Medieval dinner on Tuesday evenings ( July 14 through August 18) from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- Bonfire nights every Wednesday and Thursday evening, until 10 p.m., at La Table de l’Ecuyer restaurant at the foot of the site.
- the spectacular nighttime tour “La Roche Enchantée,” a sound-and-light show set against the backdrop of the illuminated cliff, Monday through Thursday evenings (inclusive) starting at 10 p.m. Please note: there is an additional fee for evening tours.

Do I need to reserve a ticket?
Reservations are not required. You can purchase your ticket directly at the reception desk on the day of your visit. However, we recommend that you purchase your ticket online during peak times to save time.
Is this a family-friendly site?
Yes! La Roque Saint-Christophe is one of the must-see family attractions in the Dordogne. Kids especially enjoy the demonstrations, the knights’ show, the prehistoric workshops, and Théobald the Falcon’s puzzle game.
Can we bring our dog?
Yes, dogs are welcome, as long as they are kept on a leash throughout the visit.
Is the site accessible to people with limited mobility?
The site is partially accessible. Due to its natural topography, some areas have steps and changes in elevation. However, a virtual reality experience allows visitors to explore the less accessible areas.
Can we visit the site when it’s very hot?
Yes. Thanks to its north-facing exposure and the natural coolness of the cliff, La Roque Saint-Christophe is one of the most pleasant places to visit during the hot summer months.
Can we visit when it’s raining?
Yes. Much of the tour takes place under the huge natural rock shelter, so you can still enjoy the tour even if it rains.
Are there any discounted rates?
Yes. We offer various discounted rates depending on your circumstances (children, students, groups, people with disabilities, etc.). Please check our price list or ask at the front desk for more information.
What times are the guided tours held?
Guided tours are offered daily during the summer at various times, both in the morning and in the afternoon. The times are listed in the schedule above.
Do I need to book a guided tour?
No. Guided tours are included with the admission ticket and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Just show up a few minutes before the tour starts.
How much time should I set aside to visit La Roque Saint-Christophe?
Allow between 2 and 3 hours to fully enjoy the site, take a guided tour, and check out the activities on offer.
Are the activities included in the ticket price?
Yes. Demonstrations, workshops, guided tours, and the medieval jousting show are included in your admission ticket, unless otherwise noted for certain special events.
Can we have a picnic here?
Yes, there is a picnic area located in the parking lot above the restaurant, and a few tables along the stream in the parking lot.
Is there a restaurant on site?
Yes. La Table de l’Écuyer, a restaurant located at the foot of the cliff, welcomes you every day for lunch, a refreshing drink, or ice cream.
Where can I park?
Two free parking lots are available: one at the top of the site and one at the base of the cliff, right next to the visitor center. There are other parking lots available during the season.
Are strollers allowed?
It’s simply not possible to use them because there are 80 steps up and down, and the ground is very uneven. So you’ll need to bring a baby carrier.
At what age do children start to enjoy the visit?
Children of all ages are welcome. The activities, demonstrations, the jousting show, and Théobald’s game are especially popular with families with children ages 5 or 6 and up.
